Methodology & Notes

The parcels highlighted on this map were identified using satellite-based vegetation health indicators that detect tree stress and canopy moisture loss. A high risk score does not indicate a confirmed fire hazard or abatement violation — it indicates that the vegetation on the parcel showed significant decline during the 2025 growing season and warrants closer on-site inspection.

Vegetation stress estimates are derived from Sentinel-2 Level-2A surface reflectance imagery using three spectral indices: NDVI (vegetation vigor), NDWI (canopy water content), and NDRE (chlorophyll concentration). Parcels were assessed across three dates in 2025 (June, August, October) and scored based on current vegetation condition and seasonal decline. Parcel boundaries are sourced from the San Bernardino County Assessor's Office. This assessment was produced for academic purposes and does not constitute an official county risk determination.
